Hooked on Barrier fishing charters cater for groups wanting exclusive use of a boat, and individuals wanting a casual fishing trip. You set the pace: and choose from full or half day, fishing and diving charters. (Please note we are not a game fishing boat and our primary fishing area is on the west coast of Great Barrier Island)

We regularly catch Snapper, Kahawhai, Tarakihi, Trevally and Kingfish. As well as some great fishing, our charters get you closer to the most spectacular scenery on Great Barrier Island. We often see dolphins and whales on our trips (depending on the time of year), so bring your camera!

Glenfern Sanctuary

Glenfern sanctuary consists of 260 hectares of regenerating native bush, carefully monitored within a predator proof fence. Threatened and endangered species thrive in this lush habitat, and you have the chance to experience all of it. The Glenfern walk is a well formed track through 600 year old Kauri tree and over swing bridges. 

The guided walk is recommended, you will be well informed by their environmental scientist resident. Visit for your chance to see brown teal, black petrel and other native bird life.

Kaitoke Hot Springs

Kaitoke Hot Springs Track is a popular easy walk following the edge of the Kaitoke Swamp to hot springs. The walk can even by done with a baby buggy and the hot springs are a great destination for a picknick. Continue on the Peach Tree Track to Hirakimata / Mt Hobson. Duration: 45 minutes / 4 hrs one way

Good Heavens

Great Barrier Island is one of very few Dark Sky Sanctuaries in the world. Away from the lights of the big city, and as an off-the-grid island, our light pollution is minimal.

Gaze at super stars, constellations, any visible planets, deep sky objects, the Magellanic Clouds and the moon or the Milky Way. Use night binoculars and an 8″ Dobsonian telescope to get up close and personal with the stars.

Great Barrier Active Honey and Bee Tours

Great Barrier Active Honey produce both Manuka and Bush honey here on the island.

They have a shop where jars of honey along with other honey products can be bought and they also offer bee tours.

Bee tours are for up to 6 people, where you will be shown apiaries, take a look at the inner workings of a hive and try to spot the queen. Tours take around 1.5-2 hours and start from the shop.
